Big things a-comin'...
Written by AndyC

Hi friends,

Things sure have been quiet in Blue Marble world lately, haven't they?  No new episodes for a couple of months, no website updates... Some might think it's due to a lack of interest.

It ain't!

Sure, life is busy, but always, in the background, things are happening.  I'm sorry to have been so slack about updating the site, but I resolve to make amends.  And it'll be worth it if you stick around and check back once in a while.  Why?  Well, how's this for starters:

- A new episode (or two) is/are in the works, and should be ready real soon.

- A new format is being developed so that "guest" PodJockeys can have a go at making new shows in their own time without the pressure of a deadline  (and if you're interested in giving it a go yourself, hit me up!  Use the "Contact Us" tab in the menu and drop me a line.  It's fun, not too hard, and I'm happy to coach you if you need a hand getting started!)

- Most exciting of all...  A brand new offshoot-podcast!  Yep, that's what's been taking all my time and attention lately.  Some of the finest indie artists you hear in the regular Blue Marble Radio shows have kindly given their time to talk to me, and the result is a whole new show called Blue Marble Radio Presents...  It's about 30 minutes per episode and features conversation with an artist from our lineup.  It's designed to partner with our awesome friends at the 2GuysTalking podcast network.  They've invited us to "make a music podcast that doesn't suck" (a real life quote, by the way).  So, that's what we're doing!

Coming up at the end of May, please check here, 2GuysTaking.com, and iTunes to look for and download (AND SUBSCRIBE TO!) this new show.

Artists and bands we've already spoken to include:

  • Aaron English - the Pianoman from Seattle
  • Cat Jahnke - one of the purest voices you'll ever hear
  • The Jefferson - Aussie rockers about to do big things in the US and beyond

Also, Derek Nicoletto is coming up soon, so if you have any questions you'd like us to ask him about, use the Contact Us link again (there may also be an area in the Forum for such things, so have a poke around there too!)  The goal is to have a new episode ready every 2 weeks for the foreseeable future.

So, in summary; apologies for appearing to be slack, but there's a LOT going on behind the scenes!

Cheers,

- Andy

Cat Jahnke's tribute to Davy Jones of The Monkees

Recently, if you've paid attention to the news at all, you may have noticed that Davy Jones of The Monkees has passed away.  While many people 30 and under may not know who Davy Jones was, a certain young lady from Canada does.

One of our favourite artists here at Blue Marble Radio, Cat Jahnke, has put together this unique tribute to Davy Jones.  Enjoy, (maybe not an appropriate term to use when mourning someone...) share, and don't forget to subscribe to Cat's YouTube channel or more importantly, her website www.CatJahnke.com

Icehouse - Part 1 (Post Modern Radio Network, 1995)
Written by AndyC

This is Part 1 of a two-part show featuring the career of Iva Davies and his band, Icehouse.  It was one of the last shows of Modern Roots from the Post Modern Radio Network before the network's unfortunate demise in 1995. It aired across dozens of affiliate radio stations the USA in February 1995.  This is exactly how it aired, complete with sponsor's commercials in place for a product that no longer exists.

With global success with such songs as "We Can Get Together", "Street Cafe", "Great Southern Land" and many more, Icehouse became a lead contingent in the Aussie Invasion of the early and mid '80s, regularly hitting the charts in the UK and US, as well as their native Australia.  The band was moderately successful with their first few albums, but it was Man Of Colours that really put Icehouse at the top of the charts.

Part One of this hour-long show features music from the first three albums and interview snippets with Iva Davies.

Thanks to Iva Davies for the interview; Iva and Keith Welsh for permission to share this show with you, and Kristin and Cheryl of Spellbound for arranging things in the first place.

Thanks also to Glenn Conley for PMRN.  Great times.
